Safe Classrooms &
Secure Schools
Safety requires a front to back approach beginning with how students experience their classroom environment every day to how the school responds when physical safety is at risk.

Safety today is not only physical, it is mental, social, and technological, and it starts with safe classrooms. Each student, regardless of background, should enter our classrooms feeling welcomed and supported. Additionally, our students are growing up in a world where technology is a part of their daily life, and schools must be intentional about how these tools are leveraged. Technology should enhance learning, not replace human connections and real‑world problem‑solving skills that help students flourish. As artificial intelligence and machine learning rapidly evolve, Eden Prairie Schools must be forward‑looking and thoughtful embracing innovation while ensuring students remain grounded, resilient, and prepared for the future. This forward‑looking, intentional approach to technology empowers Eden Prairie to not just stay a top school, but to lead, creating classrooms where innovation and safety work together to help every student rise with confidence.

We live in a time when the security of our students and teachers is on everyone’s mind. For students to truly thrive, they must feel safe, supported, and confident in their environment. No parent should ever wonder whether their child is safe at school, and no student should ever feel unsure about their well‑being. That is why we must be strategic and proactive as we determine our approach to safety across schools. Response time is one of the most critical factors to secure schools, so every school should regularly assess whether we are fully prepared to respond when our students and staff need us.

Creating safe schools is a commitment. A commitment to listening to families, supporting educators, investing in nurturing environments and effective safety measures where every student feels seen, valued, and protected. When students feel safe, they are lifted to become the confident, curious, and capable learners we know they can be.
